The National Assembly will reconvene on Thursday (today) at 4 p.m., following a two-day break for debate and voting on the no-confidence vote.
The opposition parties say that their no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Imran Khan has received the support of 176 legislators.
Another government partner, the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), has thrown its support behind the opposition.
With the help of Shahzain Bugti, the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), Tariq Bashir Cheema, and four independent members, the opposition was able to obtain the backing of 176 legislators in the lower chamber, surpassing the psychological threshold of 172.
With partners abandoning the coalition government, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) now has only 164 legislators on its side.
However, other supporters, notably Sheikh Rashid, Zubeida Jalal, and the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), continue to back the government.
The opposition, on the other side, claims the backing of more disgruntled PTI parliamentarians.
The opposition said 196 parliamentarians supported its no-confidence resolution in the lower house during a meeting at Sindh House.
It should be mentioned that Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, a member of the opposition, remains impartial in the no-confidence vote against the administration.
Speaker Asad Qaiser will preside over today’s National Assembly session, during which the Adviser to Parliamentary Affairs will present the Election Act (Amendment) Ordinance.
Prior to the National Assembly session, the parliamentary party of the unified opposition will meet today (Thursday) at 3 p.m. in Committee Room No. 2.
Former President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, and JUI leader Maulana Asad Mehmood will all attend the meeting, which will be chaired by Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif.
The heads of the BAP and MQM, as well as Shahzain Bugti, will attend the meeting, which will focus on finalizing a strategy for the National Assembly session.
The gathering will also determine the number of parliamentarians in the lower house who will vote on the no-confidence resolution.
