Punjab imposes complete ban on drone use.

The Punjab government has announced a complete ban on the use of drones during Muharram processions and gatherings, citing security issues.

The ban applies to all purposes, including media coverage.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari announced that both Pakistan Army and Rangers personnel have been called in to support police in maintaining law and order throughout the province.

“Several sleeper cells have already been detained by security agencies, and surveillance is ongoing,” she said.

Over 38,000 Majalis and 9,000 processions are expected to take place in Punjab. To ensure security, more than 238,000 policemen and 35,000 volunteers will be deployed.

Specialised forces like the Dolphin Squad and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) will remain active throughout the period.

The government has also issued a strict code of conduct and warned that hate content on social media will be dealt with by the cybersecurity force.

Ms. Bokhari noted that a decision on mobile service suspension and pillion riding bans will be made depending on the situation.

She urged religious scholars to promote peace and unity, especially given current regional tensions, particularly between Iran and Israel.
