Who is Bebo Baloch?
In a major operation against drug trafficking, Karachi police have detained social media influencer and former model Babra alias Bebo Baloch from the upscale Defence area on charges of supplying crystal meth (ice) and cocaine.
The arrest was made during an intelligence-based operation conducted by Darakhshan Police near 26th Street, Khayaban-e-Badar, in Defence Phase 5.
According to the police, the suspect was caught in possession of ice, a highly addictive narcotic substance.
Babra, who rose to fame as a TikToker and model, is listed in the Special Branch’s B-Category surveillance list and has a criminal record, having been arrested twice previously in theft cases by Darakhshan and Sahil police stations.
Drugs supply through social media
During the initial probe, Babra accepted that she used social media platforms to supply drugs, primarily targeting affluent youth in DHA and other elite neighbourhoods of Karachi.
She revealed that she entered the modelling industry in 2007, but following family issues and her mother’s remarriage in 2017, she moved to a flat in the Khayaban-e-Muslim Commercial area and began creating content online.
The suspect revealed that her presence at high-profile parties in posh areas exposed her to narcotics, leading her to develop an addiction to ice and cocaine, eventually drawing her into the drug supply chain.
Accomplices identified, more arrests likely
Police say Babra also named several accomplices during interrogation.
A manhunt is now underway to apprehend the remaining members of the drug network.
Law enforcement officials suspect the group used a well-organized social media network to facilitate the sale and delivery of narcotics.
A case has been registered under the Anti-Narcotics Act, and further investigation is ongoing.
