Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi stated that the government is not moving toward a confrontation, promising that it will deal with the no-confidence motion in a constitutional manner and will not prevent any of its members from voting.
The foreign minister slammed the opposition in a statement posted on Monday, claiming that in order to meet the requisite numbers, the opposition went low by selling its conscience. According to him, the ruling PTI sought the Supreme Court’s opinion on horse-trading.
Mr. Qureshi added that the party also wanted the Supreme Court to rule on whether the defectors should be disqualified for life. He warned the dissidents that if they defected, they would be disqualified for the rest of their lives.
When asked about PPP Chief Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s speeches, he said he merely laughed at them. Bilawal will learn new things as time went on, he noted.
Mr. Qureshi added that the international meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers will be held tomorrow (Tuesday) and that Prime Minister Imran Khan would deliver the keynote address.
He stated that the OIC summit would focus on the most pressing challenges facing the Muslim Ummah. During the debate, he noted, more than 100 resolutions would be debated.
He claimed that Pakistan’s hosting of the 48th Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was owing to Imran Khan’s efforts. He did, however, clarify that all sides put out their best efforts.
He stated that all CFM arrangements had been done and that China’s State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who had been invited as a special guest, would arrive today.
He stated that the Egyptian foreign minister had arrived and that most of the dignitaries will arrive today.
On the occasion of the National Day Parade celebration on March 23, all foreign ministers who are attending the OIC meeting will be special guests, according to Mr Qureshi, who added that it will add to Pakistan’s pride.
