Punjab declares NOC mandatory for online taxi services.
The Punjab government on Wednesday announced possession of a No Objection Certification (NOC) by the provincial transport department mandatory for online taxi service, reported The Asian Mirror.
The provincial government also decided to regulate online taxi service in the province. A bill in this regard has already been submitted in the Punjab Assembly.
As per the new bill, a new procedure will be adopted for the issuance of licenses to vehicles and drivers.
The step is being taken to ensure safety and facilitation of the passengers. The bill titled Provincial Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2024 was presented in the assembly.
According to the bill, the owner of the vehicle has to present the vehicle’s registration certificate, fitness certificate, and driving license.
The permission card will be issued for only one year, while it will be renewed every year.
Drivers will be bound to provide all necessary information to the government.
As per the bill, all the personal information about the passengers will be obtained and will be kept secret.
Rs2000 penalty
In case of violation, strict action will be taken against the driver, and a Rs2000 penalty will be imposed on him.
After repeated violations, his or her driving license will be cancelled permanently.
The bill is already forwarded to the relevant committee, which will submit its report in two months.
