TV host Aftab Iqbal detained at Dubai airport.
Renowned Pakistani host and anchorperson Aftab Iqbal was arrested at Dubai airport, while it is not yet known why he was taken into custody.
His brother, Junaid Iqbal, confirmed the news in a post on Twitter. He added that his brother travelled back to the UAE from Manchester last night.
On arrival at Dubai airport, he was stopped and detained there without assigning any reason. “We have not yet got wind of him ever since,” read the post.
“Being the protector of our community, you are requested to please take up the matter and let us have his safe exit from the airport, enabling him to meet his family,” he added.
Iqbal was detained by authorities as he reached the airport from Manchester. His brother, Junaid, has confirmed the detention.
Earlier last year, Iqbal was among the media persons who had left Pakistan due to the state oppression on the PTI supporters.
He went abroad a day after he was arrested in connection with the attack on the Lahore Corps Commander’s House on May 9 and was released shortly.
At that time, Aftab Iqbal wrote in a tweet, “For all wondering if I have left the country for good. NO! I have shows in the UAE and the UK. Summer is all scheduled with these events. See you soon again, Pakistan.”
Aftab Iqbal was born on 9 September 1958 in a Punjabi Arain family of Okara.
He is the son of well-known poet Zafar Iqbal, who has also been writing columns for Pakistani newspapers for over 35 years.
He received his master’s degree from Government College University (Lahore) in 1985 and then went on to get a diploma in History of Mass Communications from San Jose State University in California in 1986.
