No one can ban MNAs attending the house: says PML-Q leader

ISLAMABAD: PML-Q Secretary-General Tariq Basheer Cheema stated on Thursday that no one can ban MNAs from attending the House because the constitution grants them that privilege.

In response to federal minister Fawad Chaudhry’s recent remarks in this respect, the PML-Q leader, who is also a federal minister, made the assertion while speaking on Geo News’ Capital Talk show.

In an interview with a private station on Wednesday, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad stated, “The speaker would not consider the votes of the members of the national assembly from the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-Insaf (PTI) who have crossed the aisle.”

However, Cheema countered the statement, saying that the parliamentarians have the constitutional right to go to the House without any hindrance.

He claimed that the ministers who counseled Prime Minister Imran Khan on this matter should not have done so because it put him in an uncomfortable position.

Fawad had told the station that if the speaker notices that an MNA has left the party, that vote will not be counted in the final motion of no confidence against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

To support his allegation, the minister used Article 63A (1) (a) of the constitution.

“The speaker has the authority to immediately file a complaint with the election commission against them.” As a result, the opposition is misled,” he had stated.
