SC issues notice to PM in Ayaz Sadiq case.
The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday issued a notice to Prime Minister Imran Khan in the case of former National Assembly speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
It should be mentioned that in August 2015, the Punjab election commission’s tribunal ordered re-polling in the NA-122 National Assembly constituency, ruling the election null and illegal.
The former National Assembly speaker, who had filed an appeal against the conviction, was also fined Rs2.5 million by the electoral commission’s tribunal.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, on the other hand, appealed to the Supreme Court the electoral tribunal’s judgement on re-election in his constituency (NA-122).
The former National Assembly speaker said in his appeal filed at the Supreme Court’s Lahore registry that the electoral tribunal’s impugned ruling was contrary to the facts and relevant laws.
On Thursday, a three-member SC panel led by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the matter and issued a notice to the prime minister.
The election commission and the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) were also served with notices, and the court ordered them to pay for the costs incurred during the record review.
