PM contacted Jahangir Tareen to check his health, says Qureshi

After disgruntled PTI leader Jahangir Tareen left Pakistan for the United Kingdom, Prime Minister Imran Khan contacted him, said Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi.

According to the media site, the prime minister called the PTI leader to inquire about his health since he had left for a medical check-up in London.

“It was brought to the Prime Minister’s attention that Jahangir Tareen was ill,” Qureshi stated.

According to sources, Tareen spent a week in a private hospital in Lahore for medical treatment and will spend another week in London.

“I’m going for a medical checkup,” Tareen told lawmakers who sympathized with him. “But we must stay united and in touch.”

Ties that are sour

Investigations were begun against Tareen in 2020, following findings in a Sugar Inquiry Commission report, with tensions between the PTI leader and Prime Minister Imran Khan deteriorating.

Tareen’s adherents in the PTI created a breakaway faction the following year, which has recently made contact with the Opposition as it works to depose the administration.

PM Imran Khan’s chat with Tareen comes amid increased Opposition activity, including the PPP’s “Awami March” and the Pakistan Democratic Movement’s (PDM) attempt to file a no-confidence resolution against the prime.
