Five arrested for 'amputating' camel's leg in Sanghar

Five people have been arrested for ‘amputating’ camel’s leg in Sanghar.

On Saturday, police apprehended five individuals in the Sanghar district in connection with the brutal assault on a camel, an incident that has sparked widespread outrage.

The distressing event took place on Friday in the Mundh Jamrao area, where a camel had strayed into agricultural land.

The landowner, angered by the intrusion, resorted to violence, first torturing the animal and then severing its leg with a sharp tool.

The incident was captured on video and rapidly circulated on social media, drawing condemnation from thousands.

Initially, law enforcement registered a first information report (FIR) against unidentified individuals, neglecting to include the implicated landowner, according to Geo News.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ijaz later clarified that five arrests had been made related to the case, with two of the suspects confessing to their involvement.

In response to the public outcry, Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori pledged to donate two camels to the owner of the injured animal.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Shazia Atta Marri affirmed that action had been taken, with arrests made and an FIR filed.

She mentioned that while a compromise had been reached between the involved parties, the camel was receiving necessary medical treatment.

PPP representative Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had taken serious notice of the incident, confirming the arrests.

Despite the compromise, Memon emphasized that the state had lodged the FIR, highlighting that such acts of cruelty are intolerable.
