The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning for Karachi, predicting maximum temperatures to soar between 39°C and 41°C in the next 24 hours, amid ongoing heatwave and humid conditions.

This comes as Karachi endures a relentless heatwave that has persisted for several weeks.

The PMD reported a minimum temperature of 30°C, with humidity levels peaking at 73%.

Currently, winds are blowing from the southwest at a modest speed of 10 kilometers per hour.

On May 29, Karachi experienced its hottest day of the year so far, with the mercury hitting 41.5°C.

This pales in comparison to the city’s historical record of 48°C, set on May 9, 1938.

Weather experts predict that the heatwave will finally begin to ease after June 1.

However, the PMD has also forecasted “extraordinary” monsoon rains from June to August, which could bring much-needed relief from the scorching heat.

Nonetheless, there are growing concerns that these heavy rains could lead to flash floods across the country.

According to the PMD’s monsoon outlook, most regions are expected to receive usual to above-normal rainfall.

Central and northern Punjab are particularly vulnerable to excessive downpours, while southern Sindh and Balochistan might also experience significant rainfall.
