In the midst of the continuing political battle between the ruling PTI and the combined Opposition, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi insulted PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in a recent statement, saying that he “cannot even speak Urdu properly.”
“Baby Zardari is also protesting, but it’s his right,” Zaidi stated during a public gathering at Karachi Toll Plaza, referring to Bilawal’s message to PTI MP Allah Bakhsh.
“Adding a surname does not make Bilawal a Bhutto,” Zaidi stated.
“You are not a Bhutto, you are a Zardari,” the federal minister, who is also the party’s Sindh branch head, remarked, “therefore you are full of hypocrisy when you don’t know [the] Urdu [language].”
According to Zaidi, “such measures” [Bilawal’s notification to the PTI MPA] will not weaken the party, but rather enhance it.
He further added that the PTI is not allowed to display its banners in Karachi.
“The weather hasn’t gotten hot enough yet, but they’re afraid and panicked,” Zaidi said, adding that either all of the parties’ banners should be taken down or PTI should be allowed to put up their own.
The minister warned the PPP against using the police to “bother” its supporters.
PPP feels threatened by PTI’s flags in the city, according to Zaidi, who claims the local administration has been told to “harass and impede” PTI workers from putting up their flags.
He accused Sindh police of detaining PTI workers who were participating in the party’s election campaign.
