Hafiz Naeemur Rehman elected new emir of JI

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has been elected as the new emir of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI). The election, conducted via secret balloting, saw the participation of 46,000 party members, marking a pivotal moment in the party’s leadership transition.

Victory Amidst Competition

Rehman’s victory was not without formidable competition, as he surpassed contenders Sirajul Haq and Liaquat Baloch to secure the coveted position.

His active involvement in Sindh politics lent weight to his candidacy, propelling him to the forefront of leadership within JI.

A Period of Leadership

Assuming the mantle of emir, Rehman is slated to lead JI for a span of five years, from April 2024 to April 2029.

This duration offers ample opportunity for Rehman to steer the party through various challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.

Resignation and Rejection

The election comes in the wake of Sirajul Haq‘s resignation from the emirship earlier this year, following JI’s disappointing performance in the February 8 general elections.

Despite Haq’s resignation, the Majlis al-Shura of the party unanimously rejected it, underscoring the complexities within the party’s leadership dynamics.

As Hafiz Naeemur Rehman elected new emir of JI, the party braces itself for a new chapter under Rehman’s stewardship.

His tenure will likely be marked by efforts to rejuvenate the party’s political standing and navigate the evolving socio-political landscape of the nation.
