US embassy delegation visits Adiala Jail to meet Zahir Jaffer. A delegation comprising three officials from the US embassy paid a visit to Adiala Jail to meet with Zahir Jaffer, who was convicted and sentenced to death in 2022 for the murder of Noor Mukadam, the daughter of a former bureaucrat.

Consular Access Granted

Granting access to the US embassy officials, Jaffer, who also holds US nationality, engaged in a meeting with them within the confines of the jail superintendent’s room, as confirmed by jail authorities.

This meeting was facilitated as part of consular access extended to Jaffer.

Legal Proceedings Recap

Following a trial in February 2022, a sessions court in the federal capital sentenced Zahir Jaffer to death for his role in Noor Mukadam‘s murder.

The verdict, announced by District and Sessions Judge Atta Rabbani, also saw two of Jaffer’s employees, Jamil and Jan Mohammad, receiving a ten-year imprisonment term, while another accused, Tahir Zahoor, was acquitted.

Judicial Appeals

Subsequently, Jaffer lodged an appeal with the Islamabad High Court against the death sentence, which was met with rejection in April 2023.

Undeterred, he has since pursued a further appeal against his conviction in the Supreme Court.

Zahir Zakir Jaffer, the primary suspect, was apprehended by Islamabad police on the night of the incident from his residence, where Noor’s parents alleged he had gruesomely ended her life using a sharp instrument, including the severing of her head.
