Gohar Khan 'removed' as PTI chairman for 'unsatisfactory' performance: Marwat

Gohar Khan ‘removed’ as PTI chairman for ‘unsatisfactory’ performance.

In a recent development within Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Sher Afzal Marwat, a prominent figure within the party, has asserted that Barrister Gohar Ali Khan was ousted from his position as chairman due to what Marwat describes as unsatisfactory performance.

This revelation comes amidst PTI’s efforts to realign its leadership structure, particularly following the nullification of the party’s intra-party elections by both the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and the Supreme Court.

Gohar, who assumed the chairmanship following the controversial elections, found himself displaced as the head of the party, leaving the position vacant for over a month.

Marwat, while acknowledging Gohar’s gentlemanly demeanor, criticized his tenure, citing incompetence and a failure to meet the expectations of party workers.

Marwat emphasized the crucial necessity for active and effective leadership within the party, a criterion which he suggests Gohar did not fulfill.

In response to Gohar’s removal, the PTI has set its sights on new leadership, with Gohar himself announcing Barrister Ali Zafar as the party’s nominee for the chairman position.

This move signals PTI’s commitment to revitalizing its leadership structure and reasserting its political presence in the face of recent challenges.

Meanwhile, PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan had previously announced plans for intra-party elections, which were subsequently postponed. However, with the unveiling of a new election schedule, PTI is gearing up for a fresh round of internal polls.

As per the revised timeline, nomination papers can be submitted on February 23-24, followed by scrutiny on February 25.

Final decisions on nomination papers will be announced on February 27, paving the way for polling to take place on March 3 at both the central office and provincial secretariats of the party.

The forthcoming elections hold significant implications for PTI, as the party seeks to navigate internal restructuring while maintaining its political momentum.

As Gohar Khan ‘removed’ as PTI chairman for ‘unsatisfactory’ performance, PTI faces a pivotal moment in its trajectory, one that could shape its future direction and influence within the Pakistani political landscape.
