Trump says Russia always defeats its enemies through military prowess. Former US President Donald Trump has reiterated his opposition to arming Ukraine, drawing on historical examples of Russia’s military prowess to support his stance.

Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump characterized Russia as a formidable “war machine” and emphasized the country’s past victories over formidable adversaries like Hitler and Napoleon.

“I feel very bad… Remember this: you are really up against a war machine in Russia. [It’s] what they do. They’ve defeated Hitler, they’ve defeated Napoleon,” the 77-year-old Trump said Tuesday.

Trump, who is currently leading the Republican Party’s nomination bid for the presidency, asserted that had he remained in office, the escalation of tensions between Ukraine and Russia would have been prevented, confidently stating that he could resolve the situation within a mere 24 hours.

Addressing the issue during a Town Hall event, Trump shifted focus towards Europe, suggesting that the continent bears the brunt of the Russia-Ukraine conflict rather than the United States.

“We have an ocean in between us. They don’t have that ocean,” Trump said, adding: “You know why they have not paid? Cause nobody asked them.”

He criticized European nations for their perceived lack of financial support to Kyiv, arguing that their reluctance stems from not being sufficiently prompted to contribute.

Despite the US Senate’s recent passage of a $95 billion aid package, which includes provisions for Ukraine, uncertainty looms over its fate in the House of Representatives.

House Speaker Mike Johnson’s decision not to bring the package to a floor vote exacerbates the challenges faced by Ukraine in securing much-needed assistance.

Taking to social media, Trump voiced his discontent over the intertwining of foreign aid with other legislative matters, specifically referencing a $60 billion allocation to Ukraine alongside a border security bill.

He cautioned against such bundling, labeling it detrimental to the interests of the Republican Party and advantageous to the Democrats.

“This Bill is a great gift to the Democrats and a Death Wish for The Republican Party,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform to his party members in Congress.
