Joe Biden mixes Macron with dead French president Mitterrand.
In a Las Vegas campaign event on Sunday, President Joe Biden reportedly made a notable mix-up between French President Emmanuel Macron and former French president Francois Mitterrand, recounting details of a Group of 7 (G7) meeting he attended after his 2020 election victory.
During the event, Biden claimed to have told the meeting, “America is back,” prompting a response from “Mitterrand” from Germany, which he later corrected to “from France.”
Social media users quickly pointed out the historical inaccuracy, noting that Mitterrand served as France’s president from 1981 to 1995 and passed away in 1996.

The White House later released a transcript of Biden’s remarks, with “Mitterrand” crossed out and replaced with Macron.

Biden used the opportunity to criticize former President Donald Trump during his speech, particularly focusing on Trump’s recent comments about immigrants “poisoning the blood” of the United States.
At 81, Biden is currently the oldest sitting US president and has been under consistent scrutiny regarding his age and fitness for a potential second term since taking office in 2021.
Critics argue that Biden’s mix-ups and gaffes raise questions about his ability to effectively lead the nation. If re-elected, Biden would be 87 by the end of a second term.
In a noteworthy comparison, last month, Biden‘s 77-year-old political rival, Donald Trump, faced criticism for allegedly confusing GOP challenger Nikki Haley with former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi during a discussion about the January 6 Capitol riots.
Biden responded to Trump’s gaffe on social media, stating, “I don’t agree with Nikki Haley on everything, but we agree on this much: She is not Nancy Pelosi.”
The post included a campaign ad that not only mocked Trump for the mix-up but also highlighted concerns about his mental fitness.
