Punjab approves toll tax on 18 more roads. The interim government of Punjab, the most populous region in the nation, has greenlit the expansion of toll tax collection to encompass a network of 18 strategic highways.
This decision, ratified during a recent cabinet meeting chaired by Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, marks a significant development in the province’s fiscal strategy.
Toll tax, a levy imposed on commuters traversing specific interstate roads and highways under provincial jurisdiction, will now extend to key thoroughfares such as Kasur Road, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, and Chicha Watani.

Additionally, motorists entering Bahawalpur and navigating towards Hashilpur to Chishtian will now be obligated to pay road tax.
The ambit of toll tax is also set to encompass several highways in Gujranwala, Nankana Sahib, and Sheikhupura.
The impending implementation of toll taxes on these routes is slated to be formalized through notifications from the Finance and Communication departments in the imminent future.
While the decision to augment the toll tax network may pose a financial burden on commuters, the provincial government asserts that the additional revenue garnered will be instrumental in funding crucial infrastructure projects.
