KARACHI: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf conducted a rally in front of the Chief Minister House on Tuesday to protest the rise in attack and violence against female students in Sindh’s educational institutions.
The demonstration was organized by Sindh Assembly Opposition Leader Haleem Adil Sheikh after the speaker refused to allow the combined opposition to table a resolution on the pressing subject. The demonstration was attended by PTI Parliamentary Leader Khurram Sher Zaman, as well as MPAs Bilal Ghaffar, Saeed Ahmed Afridi, Raja Azhar, Rabistan Khan, Jamal Siddiqui, Shehzad Qureshi, Shahnawaz Jadoon, Adeel Ahmed, Muhammad Ali GG, Adiba Hassan, and others.
The PTI lawmakers also exhibited an open letter addressed by the joint opposition to Sindh Chief Minister. The petition, which was displayed on the CM’s office wall, urged swift action against perpetrators of abuse, harassment, and murder of female students in the province’s educational institutions.
Speaking at the rally, the opposition leader said that members of Sindh’s combined opposition had wanted to bring these critical concerns up for discussion in the Sindh Assembly since Friday’s session.
“We also filed a resolution to the assembly secretariat, but we were not permitted to speak about it. This is a reason for severe concern because the PPP Sindh administration is linked to a series of crimes in which Sindh’s daughters have been disgraced “According to Haleem, He went on to say that the CM’s silence on the issue indicates his support for the perpetrators.
He claimed that incidences of sexual aggression and harassment against women were being reported in several cities around the province, notably at educational institutions. “There was the barbarous and horrible episode of Naukot, in which two young girls were kidnapped and molested by more than 20 persons, while the local police attempted to undermine the case due to political pressure.”
He cited another occasion in which Perveen Rind, a student at her university, was harassed by a senior officer. “She’s been protesting for justice barefoot,” Haleem continued. Bakhtawar Soomro, a student at IBA Sukkur, was another victim of university administration harassment, he recalled.
He questioned who was petitioning the court to seek justice for her, while also bringing up the issue of Almas Bhan, a Sujawal resident who was forced to drop out of Sindh University when unscrupulous elements attempted to kidnap her.
Tania Khaskheli, a tenth-grade student in Jhangara, was shot and killed by the son of a local landlord, according to the letter. It cited the example of Amna Chandio, 14, who was exhumed and desecrated at a village in Ghulamullah Chandio, Thatta district.
