PCB announces up to 100% increase in women players’ match fee

Zaka Ashraf’s status as PCB chief to be reassessed after World Cup 2023. Prime Minister Anwaar-Ul-Haq Kakar confirmed on Friday that Zaka Ashraf, the Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Management Committee, will retain his position until the conclusion of the ongoing ICC Men’s World Cup 2023.

Initially set to step down after his four-month term expired on Saturday, Ashraf’s fate will be reassessed by the government after the World Cup concludes on November 19.

During an interview with a private television channel, PM Kakar, who also serves as the patron-in-chief of the Board, stated, “A major event is in progress. At this point, we do not want to make any big decisions. Once the World Cup concludes, his status will be reassessed. I don’t think at this point of time we are in a position to make a big decision. At times you have to make decisions considering the doctrine of necessity.”

The extension of Ashraf’s tenure is widely believed to be contingent on the performance of the Pakistan cricket team in the World Cup.

Amidst this decision, allegations of misconduct and unconstitutional decisions have been raised against Ashraf by a member of his own management committee, Zulfiqar Malik, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.

Furthermore, the PCB has been engulfed in controversies, including the resignation of the now-former chief selector, Inzamam ul Haq, and the leak of a private conversation involving Green Shirts’ skipper, Babar Azam, and a senior PCB official.

As Zaka Ashraf’s status as PCB chief to be reassessed after World Cup 2023, in the midst of these developments, former cricketing sensation Shahid Afridi is expected to play a pivotal role within the PCB, following his recent meeting with the Prime Minister.

The outcome of these events remains uncertain, leaving the cricketing community eagerly awaiting further developments on the future management of the PCB.
