Tokyo – Japanese Foreign Minister assures aid for Palestinians amidst Gaza crisis. Yoko Kamikawa, Japan’s Foreign Minister, announced on Thursday her plans to meet with Palestinian officials during her upcoming visits to Israel and Jordan.
During these discussions, she intends to convey Japan’s commitment to providing aid for the Palestinians, reaffirming the nation’s solidarity in the face of the ongoing crisis.
Kamikawa is scheduled to meet with Eli Cohen, Israel’s Foreign Minister, during her two-day visit, which commences on Friday.
This diplomatic engagement comes amidst the escalating tensions in Gaza, following Israel’s recent attacks on the Jabalia refugee camp.
The situation prompted the departure of foreigners, including Japanese nationals, from the affected region.
Expressing her concerns about the dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza, Kamikawa emphasized the need to address the crisis promptly.

“I hope to discuss how to respond to the grave humanitarian situation in the Gaza region, as well as directly communicate Japan’s readiness to continue providing aid,” she stated, without specifying the exact recipients of the aid among the Palestinian counterparts.
Addressing the recent Israeli strike on the Jabalia refugee camp, Kamikawa acknowledged the civilian casualties resulting from the attack.
“I understand the Israeli military has said the strike targeted Hamas operatives and relevant infrastructure,” she noted, refraining from further commentary on the matter.
In her briefing before departure, the Foreign Minister confirmed that all ten Japanese nationals, along with their eight Palestinian family members, who wished to leave Gaza, had safely evacuated to Egypt.
She assured that the evacuees were in good health. Additionally, Kamikawa revealed that Japan would maintain contact with one Japanese national who chose to remain in Gaza and did not evacuate.
