ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday offered an invitation to Prince Charles of Wales and his wife, Duchess of Cornwall Camilla Shand, to visit Pakistan in honour of the 75th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties.
PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari met Prince Charles in London and communicated the invitation, according to the newspaper.
“Pakistan and the United Kingdom are long-standing friends and partners,” Bukhari remarked. “Pakistan and the United Kingdom want to make a big deal out of the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The arrival of Prince Charles and his wife Camilla to Pakistan is something Prime Minister Imran Khan is looking forward to. We hope you will be able to visit Pakistan this year. Their visit to Pakistan will be beneficial to global climate change initiatives.”
The Prince of Wales expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Imran Khan and Bukhari for the invitation, as well as the federal government for the safe evacuation of British residents and diplomatic employees from Afghanistan during the Taliban takeover.
He praised Islamabad’s good contribution in fostering peace and stability in the region, saying the two countries have a long history together. PM Imran’s efforts to combat climate change were also lauded by Prince Charles, who praised Pakistan’s good role in world affairs under his leadership.
Another British royal couple, Prince William and Kate Middleton, paid a five-day visit to Pakistan in 2019.
