This ban is due to sanitary concerns. The measure was initiated after UAE officials discovered fungus on meat during an inspection of a cargo upon its arrival in the Gulf country.

The prohibition will be in effect until October 10th.

The restriction is a blow to the national budget because Pakistan sends fresh meat to the UAE worth $12 million a month by sea.

Pakistan sells the majority of its fresh meat to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain.
