Sheikh Rashid arrested from Lal Haveli

Sheikh Rashid arrested from Lal Haveli. On Sunday, Pakistan’s most popular politician, Awami Muslim League chairman Sheikh Rasheed, and two of his family were arrested from Lal Haveli in Rawalpindi.

Sardar Abdur Razak, Sheikh Rasheed’s lawyers, reported that the former Member of National Assembly (MNA) had been arrested and taken to an undisclosed place.

“Men clad in plain clothes arrested Sheikh Rashid from his residence,” he said, claiming that the former interior minister had been moved to an “undisclosed location”.

Khan said Rashid’s nephew Sheikh Shakir and houseworker Imran have also been arrested.

The PTI also confirmed Rashid’s arrest in a post on social media platform X. “The political victimisation and fascism continues, this time with the arrest of Sheikh Rashid,” it said.

Sheikh Rashid was previously the minister of interior and railways in the government of former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

As Sheikh Rashid arrested from Lal Haveli, Rashid’s detention comes amid the state’s crackdown on the PTI and its followers in the aftermath of vandalism on May 9, when party head Imran Khan was detained for the first time from the premises of the Islamabad High Court.

In June of this year, the AML commander claimed that Islamabad police broke into his residence and beat up his servants.

In a separate instance, he claimed that a “force clad in plain clothes” tortured his employees at his Lal Haveli residence in Rawalpindi.

Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad is a Pakistani politician who served as the country’s 38th Interior Minister between 2020 and 2022. He is the founder and leader of the Awami Muslim League, as well as a close ally of the political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
