Raja Riaz joins PML-N after meeting with Nawaz Sharif. Raja Riaz, former opposition leader in the National Assembly (NA), has joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) after meeting with party supremo Nawaz Sharif in London.
In an interview with journalists prior to his meeting with the PML-N leadership in London, Riaz intimated that he will run in the forthcoming general elections from Faisalabad.
He stated that the issue would be reviewed with the PML-N supremo and added, “It is not necessary that a decision [in this regard] be made today.”

In response to a query, he stated that the PML-N has a significant vote bank in Pakistan because people feel that the party built the country.
He insisted that the PML-N supremo will be greeted warmly upon his return.
Nawaz was disqualified in 2017 by the Supreme Court for failing to declare a receiveable salary.
Nawaz has been living in self-imposed exile in London since November 2019 due to health concerns.
On September 12, the former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that “Nawaz Sharif will reach Pakistan on October 21.”
The former opposition leader responded to a different question by predicting that elections will probably take place in mid-February of the following year.

Riaz joined the PML-N and showed his support for Nawaz’s leadership during the meeting. During the meeting, former finance minister Ishaq Dar, former prime minister Shehbaz, and other leaders were also present.
In the general election of 2018, Riaz gained a seat as an MNA for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), but the party cancelled his basic membership for breaking party rules.
“174 members have recorded their votes in favour of the resolution, consequently the resolution for the vote on no-confidence against Mr Imran Khan, the prime minister of Pakistan, has been passed by a majority,” Ayaz Sadiq announced after the process of voting was completed.
PTI formally expelled Riaz in August 2023.
It is important to note that Riaz had worked as a “jiyala” for 35 years at this point. In May 2016, the leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) quit and joined the PTI.
