DG ISI Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum gets extension. Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum’s term as Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence of Pakistan (DG-ISI) has been extended, and he will now hold the position for an additional year.

According to government sources cited by investigative journalist Umer Cheema, the military’s top brass has decided to keep the current spymaster on duty.

The reports came out a week after rumors that Gen Anjum had been replaced as the head of the top intelligence agency by Lt. General Shahid Imtiaz circulated.

As DG ISI Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum gets extension, according to the report, General Nadeem Anjum will hold the coveted position until the situation is resolved, and on September 14 a summary was approved in this regard. After Akhtar Abdur Rehman and Shuja Pasha, he was the third ISI Director General to be granted a tenure extension.

Lt. Gen. Nadeem Anjum succeeded Faiz Hameed as head of the ISI in November 2021.

As the leading intelligence agency played a crucial role in the fight against terrorism while also recently remaining active against curbing smuggling along the Iran and Afghanistan border, among other crucial tasks, military top officials decided to keep Gen Anjum in his position as ISI chief.

The country’s current director of intelligence received his commission in the Light Anti-Tank Battalion of the Punjab Regiment and has extensive experience in leadership, staff, and instructional assignments. He is a native of Gujar Khan’s Mohra Sheikhan, Kontrilla, in the Rawalpindi district.

General Nadeem holds degrees from the Royal College of Defence Studies in the UK, the Combined Arms Centre in the UK, the NDU in Islamabad, the Advance Staff Course in the UK, and the Staff College in Quetta.

Holder of a degree from the Asia-Pacific Centre for Security Studies in Honolulu and a graduate of the Royal College of Defence Studies.

He graduated from the 78th Long Course of the PMA and has a master’s degree from both the National Defence University of Pakistan and King’s College, London.

The new spymaster has taught at the NDU in Islamabad, the Staff College, and the Pakistan Military Academy. He served as the Quetta Staff College’s commandant. He has also served as the 5 Corps’ chief of staff. Gen.

Nadeem’s final responsibility was as Commander of the 5 Corps in Sindh. Additionally, he has served as the IG of the Balochistan Frontier Corps (North) in the past.
