Why has Justin Trudeau divorced his wife after 18 years?
On Wednesday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Grégoire Trudeau, unexpectedly announced their separation on Instagram, effectively ending the couple’s 18-year high-profile marriage.
Trudeau, 51, married Gregoire Trudeau, 48, in May 2005. Trudeau became prime minister ten years later, putting the finely dressed couple in the spotlight of the world media.
Trudeau, whose father, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, served as Prime Minister of Canada for 15 years, was a schoolteacher before entering politics.

Gregoire Trudeau, a former entertainment journalist, had known Trudeau since he was a toddler. They have three children: Xavier, 15; Ella Grace, 14; and Hadrien, nine.
