Qatar Airways is abolishing first class. The renowned airline Qatar Airways, winner of the “World’s Best Airline” title, has announced that first-class berths will not be available on any of its upcoming long-haul aircraft.
CEO Akbar Al Baker claims that the cost of purchasing opulent first-class seats does not outweigh the benefits, especially since the airline’s business class provides comparable amenities.
As Qatar Airways is abolishing first class, Al Baker further explained in a special interview that he does not see the need to spend money on a lower class that duplicates the benefits of first class.
The “Q-suite,” Qatar’s business class, is where the future, according to the company’s CEO. The decision, which has reportedly sent shockwaves through the aviation industry, comes as Qatar Airways prepares to replace its Airbus A380s, which still have first-class seating, with the Boeing 777X.
First class has frequently been dismissed as little more than a gimmick for the top executives of corporate clients or a luxury extravagance sought after by regular travelers looking for an unforgettable travel experience.
Although some continue to question whether or not first class should be eliminated because it contradicts the five-star image, the decision by Qatar Airways is likely to attract other aviation players as well.
Additionally, rival airlines like Qantas Airways Ltd., Air France, and others are putting more effort into giving passengers upscale amenities and services.
First class and economy class are typically two separate seating options available on commercial airplanes, offering various degrees of comfort, amenities, and services, though it varies from one carrier to another.
When traveling in first class, passengers enjoy roomy, comfortable seats that, on long-haul flights, frequently have the option of being fully reclined or transformed into beds. Additionally, first-class passengers enjoy enhanced meal options, priority boarding, personalized service from devoted cabin crew members, and access to exclusive lounges.
On the other hand, travelers can travel in economy class for a lower price. Less legroom, smaller seats, and a smaller range of reclining are all present. Economy-class amenities are more basic and include smaller personal screens, the same menu options, and common headphones. In contrast to first-class passengers, those traveling in economy receive the same level of service from flight attendants and are not entitled to any special benefits.
