PM Imran sees Skardu as world winter sports destination in coming years.
Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed optimism on Saturday that Skardu would become a world winter sports destination in the coming years.
The premier made the statements while posting an image of Gilgit-Baltistan’s city and another of girls playing ice hockey there at night on his official Twitter account.
In the caption, he said, “Skardu at night & our girls playing ice hockey in GB.”
“Now that Skardu has an international airport, this location will, inshaAllah, become a world winter sports destination,” he added.

Last month, while speaking to a crowd in the city, Prime Minister stated that with enhanced road connectivity and the Skardu International Airport, Gilgit-Baltistan will become a major tourist destination, ensuring the region’s economic growth.
PM Imran Khan, who had earlier opened Skardu International Airport and the 164-kilometer Jaglot-Skardu strategic route, had stated that a greatly upgraded infrastructure will help the region’s tourism.
He had emphasised that Pakistan’s attractive northern areas and different religious sites might generate billions in tourism revenue, and warned residents to protect their interests since others would be eyeing their property and land because of the area’s tourism potential.
GB, Balochistan, the former tribal territories, and southern Punjab are among the locations where the premier has declared that he is prioritising the development of communication and health services.
He unveiled a Rs370 billion package for Gilgit in April of last year, saying that tourism investment might transform the province.
He said that the money would be reimbursed over the next five years.
The package, according to the premier, will concentrate on hydropower projects, as well as the local distribution network and tourism linkages, as well as skill development and scholarships for the region’s youth.
