Ex PM Imran Khan indicted in Toshakhana case

In the Toshakhana case filed by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), a district and sessions court in the federal capital indicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan.

Additional Meeting While hearing the case at the Islamabad police lines, Judge Humayun Dilawar framed the charges.

The former prime minister was present during the hearing when he declined the charges and refused to sign the documents. He was arrested from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) yesterday in another corruption case.

During the previous hearing, Khan’s lawyer, Khawaja Harris, argued that the district election commissioner violated the law by filing a complaint against the PTI leader.

In his counter-arguments, the ECP lawyer stated that the petition against the former premier was legal and that the PTI was using delaying tactics. He emphasized that the sessions court was required to rule on the case involving corrupt practices within three months.

At one point, Imran Khan’s lawyer objected that the ECP filed the petition after 120 days after its verdict regarding Imran Khan’s disqualification in the Toshakhana case.

After hearing arguments, the judge reserved its decision, which has now been made public. The court had ordered the PTI chief to appear before him for indictment on May 10.

The ruling coalition filed a reference against Imran Khan last year, accusing him of failing to disclose the details of gifts he received from Toshakhana in his asset declarations. The ECP concluded the case in October, disqualifying him for dishonesty, and filed a criminal complaint against Imran Khan in this regard with the district and sessions courts.
