A US widow who, after her husband’s unexpected death, wrote a children’s book about grief was detained on murder charges on Monday.

Kouri Darden Richins, 33, of Summit County was reportedly detained on Monday for allegedly poisoning her husband, Eric Richins, on March 4, 2022, at their home on Willow Court in Kamas, according to a KUTV report. A first-degree aggravated murder charge has been brought against the mother of three. According to authorities, the woman is also facing three second-degree felonies for possessing a controlled substance with the intent to distribute.

On the night of Eric’s death, the police reportedly arrived at their residence at around 3:20 am and discovered him lying at the foot of the bed. Documents cited by KSL-TV state that “life-saving measures were attempted, but Eric was declared deceased.”

According to a BBC report, Ms. Richins reported that her husband, Eric Richins, was “cold to the touch” in March 2022 by calling the police late one night.

She claimed to have made her husband a mixed vodka drink before discovering him unconscious hours later, according to the authorities. Later, a coroner discovered that Mr. Richins had overdosed on fentanyl.

According to the medical examiner, Mr. Richins had five times the amount of the drug required to be lethal in his system.

According to court records, Mr. Richins texted a person who had been detained on drug charges between December 2021 and February 2022 to request prescription pain medication for a back injury investor.

The court records also showed that Ms. Richins initially requested pills of hydrocodone but later requested something stronger.

He became ill after the couple had a Valentine’s Day dinner and Ms Richins had the drugs for three days.

Two weeks later, Ms. Richins acquired additional fentanyl. On March 4, Ms. Richins complained to the police over the phone about her husband’s lack of responsiveness.

In order to assist kids in coping with the loss of a loved one, Ms. Richins also wrote the picture book “Are You With Me?”
