Money grows on trees in Karnataka. Here's the proof

Money has been discovered growing on trees and riding on auto-rickshaws in Karnataka, which is preparing for elections.

The Income Tax department seized Rs 1 crore from the house of the brother of Congress’s candidate in Karnataka’s Mysore. The state will be voting in Assembly polls on May 10.

This week, Income Tax officials seized one crore rupees in Subramania Rai’s home in Mysore, Karnataka.

Rai is the brother of Congress candidate Ashok Kumar Rai for the Puttur District.

On Wednesday, authorities discovered the money on a mango tree in Rai’s backyard.

The I-T department has conducted a string of raids in poll-bound Karnataka over the past few weeks.

The Bengaluru Police caught two men with Rs 1 crore unaccounted for cash. The recovery was made from an auto near the City Market area on April 13.

Since the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is in place in Karnataka, moving a large sum of money without proper documents is not permitted in the state.

Last month, I-T teams raided the Hubballi office of private real estate developer Ankita Builders and its owner Narayan Acharya’s home.

The move came a day after the Income Tax Department raided two residences of former Congress leader Gangadhar Gowda and an educational institution in Dakshina Kannada’s Belthangady. Ranjan Gowda, Gangadhar Gowda’s son, owns the educational institution.

In 2018, Gowda left the BJP to join the Congress. He recently announced his resignation from politics after being denied a ticket for the Karnataka Assembly elections.

Karnataka goes to polls on May 10 and results will be out on May 13.
