Shahzad Akbar was not performing up to the mark, reveals Rashid

Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the Interior Minister, has publicly revealed that Prime Minister Imran Khan was dissatisfied with the performance of Shahzad Akbar, who abruptly resigned from his job as adviser to the Prime Minister on accountability and the interior earlier this week.

In response to a question, the interior minister told BBC Urdu on Thursday that Akbar’s failure to bring former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif back from London was not the main cause for his departure from the federal cabinet.

“He was unable to collect [stolen] wealth… only Shehbaz Sharif [the PML-N president] is facing a money laundering case for Rs16 billion, but we were unable to recover even that [amount],” Rashid remarked.

He claimed that Prime Minister Imran Khan is adamant about eradicating graft from the country, and that he has removed many members of his party and government positions over corruption charges.

“Imran Khan isn’t capable of anything more,” he added.

People voted for Imran Khan to hold the “corrupt and plunderers” accountable, but Rashid conceded that the ruling PTI was unable to keep its pre-election pledge owing to “weaknesses.”

He also stated that the administration is working to sign extradition treaties with other nations, particularly the United Kingdom, in order to return those wanted by courts and other criminals.

The federal minister also stated that the government is working to extradite Nawaz Sharif, while conceding that it was the government’s fault for allowing him special permission to travel overseas in 2019.

“It is our fault that we sent him [Nawaz Sharif].” He said, “They managed to put dust in everyone’s eyes and go away.”

PM Imran stated on Wednesday that he had already accomplished his pre-election promise of eradicating corruption in the country within 90 days of taking office.

Premier Imran claimed that no financial corruption issues have surfaced during the existing government’s tenure, however scandals such as the Panama Papers had surfaced during the previous government’s control.

“The vow to abolish corruption in 90 days has already been fulfilled,” a party leader who did not want to be identified said the prime minister said during a meeting of the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-spokespersons. Insaf’s (PTI).
