I am writing to express my grave concern about the severe electricity issue in Gilgit Baltistan and its adverse impact on the lives of its residents. The lack of access to electricity is a constant challenge, particularly in the winter season when power outages can last for 18-20 hours a day. This energy crisis is not only a major inconvenience for people in their daily lives but is also having significant economic implications for the region.
The electricity issue has a profound impact on the lives of people in Gilgit-Baltistan, particularly in terms of health, education, and employment opportunities. With the absence of proper heating, people are exposed to cold weather, which can cause various respiratory illnesses, particularly in children and the elderly. Moreover, schools are unable to function during power outages, and students are unable to continue their studies, affecting their academic performance. The lack of electricity also hinders businesses and industries, which rely on a steady source of power to function effectively. As a result, the region’s economic potential remains untapped, and job opportunities remain limited.
However, Gilgit-Baltistan has vast potential for hydroelectric power generation, with its abundant natural resources, including rivers and waterfalls. Hydroelectric power could provide a reliable and sustainable source of electricity, significantly reducing the power crisis in the region. Moreover, the development of hydroelectric power infrastructure could create new job opportunities in the region, particularly in the construction and operation of hydroelectric power plants.
In conclusion, I urge the government to prioritize the issue of power generation in Gilgit-Baltistan and take immediate action to develop the necessary infrastructure for hydroelectric power generation. The people of the region deserve access to a steady source of electricity, which is critical for their health, education, and economic well-being. The development of hydroelectric power infrastructure could also unlock the region’s vast potential and promote sustainable economic growth.
