Fawad urges court to conduct speedy trial of corruption cases against Sharif family

Fawad Chaudhry, the Information Minister, has requested courts to expedite the trial of corruption charges against the Sharif family and to allow live telecast of court hearings.

“We want Shehbaz Sharif’s case to be broadcast live… so that people are aware of the [details] of the case,” the federal minister stated at a press conference on Monday in Islamabad.

He also asked the chief justices of the courts to broadcast the hearings of the Sharif family’s corruption trials live on television so that the public may evaluate whether or not the former rulers were involved in any wrongdoing.

Fawad accused the Shehbaz and previous Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif of stealing billions of rupees from the country.

When challenged to explain the sources of their riches, the PML-N leaders stated that Pakistani law does not apply to their sons who live in London, he continued.

The minister of information further stated that courts should reveal the outcome of corruption cases without fear or interference.

He stated that it was apparent that Nawaz attempted to sway judicial proceedings through the affidavit of retired G-B judge Rana Shamim.

“This is a good case to put Nawaz in for attempting to sway court procedures in the Rana Shamim case,” he continued.

Fawad also said that the PTI took over the country after a “decade of darkness” and put it back on track.

“Despite the obstacle of Covid-19, we have achieved 5.37 percent economic growth today, and the entire globe is now adopting Pakistan’s policy to [manage the pandemic],” he remarked, referring to the government’s choice not to impose total lockdown during the peak of the dangerous virus.

He claimed that, despite increasing inflation, the average person’s income has increased under the PTI’s reign, and that “agricultural and the corporate sector have generated record profits.”

He also asked private enterprises to raise their employees’ compensation.
