Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar banned all government officers from driving luxury vehicles on Monday.
The finance minister presided over the second meeting of the austerity committee in Islamabad on Monday.
Officials from the Ministry of Finance informed the meeting that many government officers are violating the austerity policy by driving vehicles with displacements greater than 1800 cc.
Taking serious note of the situation, the finance minister stated that austerity measures should be strictly enforced.
He directed the Cabinet Division to take back the vehicles from the officers within three days.

He also gave the task to the Ministry of Law of implementing austerity measures in the High Judiciary.
The Ministry of Law has also been given the task of implementing austerity measures in the Senate and the National Assembly as well.
Ishaq Dar also instructed the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination to implement austerity measures in the provinces as well.
