Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr. Shahid Kamal of Government College University (GCU), Faisalabad passed away on Monday in a car accident.
His car was involved in an accident near Sahianwala while he was traveling from Lahore to Faisalabad, according to rescue sources.
Prof. Dr. Shahid Kamal was a recognized expert in statistics around the world.
From the University of Exeter in Devon, the United Kingdom, he received a Ph.D. in Applied Biostatistics (UK).
He had been teaching, conducting research, and managing for more than 30 years.
He worked at the University of Punjab in Lahore as a professor, director, and dean.
He created numerous centers and institutes, such as the Operation Research Centre and the Statistical Databank.
At the University of Punjab, he started a number of master’s degree programmes. He wrote two books and numerous research articles that were published in reputable national and international journals.
Additionally, he oversaw a large number of Ph.D. and MPhil research students. On July 24, 2019, he began serving as the VC at GCU Faisalabad.
Biography
Prof. Dr. Shahid Kamal was a well-renowned, internationally acknowledged name in the field of Statistics. He earned his Ph.D. in Applied Biostatistics from the University of Exeter, Devon, UK, and had teaching, research, and administrative experience spanning more than 30 years encompassing Applied Biostatistics, Design and Analysis of Experiments, Regression and Econometrics, Business Statistics, Computer Applications & Programming and in diverse fields of Statistical Applications.
He had served as Dean, Director, Principal, and Professor at the University of Punjab, Lahore.
He developed many institutes and centers including Operation Research Centre and Statistical Databank. He has initiated many master’s degree programs at the University of Punjab.
He was the author of two books and has contributed a great number of research articles in reputable national and international research journals.
He had supervised many research scholars at MPhil and Ph.D. levels. He hailed from a well-known educational family in Pakistan.
