Speaking Truth to Oppressed

No retired, in service member of PAF works in NADRA: Ali Muhammad Khan

ISLAMABAD: On Tuesday, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan assured the Senate that no retired or active member of the Pakistan Armed Forces was working on deputation at the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).

In response to a question during question hour, the minister stated that NADRA employs 13,997 people, with only six on deputation.

According to him, these personnel were paid wages according on the Basic Pay Scale as determined by their parent departments’ LPCs, plus 10% headquarters and utility allowances, as well as a 20% deputation allowance.

In response to another query, the minister stated that, in addition to the number plates issued by the separate excise and taxation agencies, the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) issued infringement tickets against exotic number plates.

The use of bogus number plates, on the other hand, constituted a felony, and such car owners should be penalized, he continued.

The ITP also handed traffic infraction citations to violators who displayed un-prescribed number plates, according to Khan. According to him, the traffic police issued 42,831 tickets in 2021 and collected Rs12,849,300 in fines from violators.

After a debate over the recruitment of armed forces personnel in the organisation began last month, the opposition benches demanded precise details on employees of NADRA on deputation.

Senator Mushtaq Ahmed of the Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) had inquired as to how many personnel were on deputation at NADRA and how many retired army officers worked there.

“The response supplied is inadequate,” he alleged, adding that he had particularly inquired about the number of retired military soldiers re-employed by Nadra.
