SIALKOT: A $100,000 donation was raised and given to the widow and family of a Sri Lankan man who was lynched by a mob in Sialkot by the business community.
The cash was raised by members of the business community, many of whom are friends and colleagues of the deceased Sri Lankan man, to assist the widow who had called for justice.
Prime Minister Imran Khan had already declared that the business community in Sialkot had contributed $100,000 for Priyantha Kumara’s family, and that his pay will continue to be sent to his widow each month.
In December of last year, a mob of workers tortured and burned the Sri Lankan national who had been working as a manager at Rajco Industries in Sialkot over claims of “blasphemy.”
The funds have been transferred to the widow’s account. A salary of $1,167 has also been paid to the widow’s account by the owners of the factory where the deceased worked as a manager.
For the following ten years, the widow will be paid her pay on a monthly basis without interruption.
Priyantha’s wife had already pleaded with Pakistani and Sri Lankan politicians for justice for her slain husband.
“I knew about my husband’s horrible murder via the news. Later, I came upon this on the internet. “He was a really innocent man,” she told BBC Sinhala reporters.
“I urge the leaders of Sri Lanka and Pakistan to bring the perpetrators to justice for my husband and two children,” she continued.
