Chairman NAB Aftab Sultan submits resignation to PM. Aftab Sultan, the chairman of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), submitted his resignation to the prime minister due to political cases on Tuesday.
Sultan was named in July of last year to lead the nation’s anti-corruption watchdog. Sultan resigned and sent a letter of resignation to the prime minister, reportedly due to pressure from political matters.
When asked why he left the coveted position, Mr. Sultan told a local news outlet that he did so because he was told to do things that he found to be unacceptable. He spoke of leaving the office with a positive attitude.
According to reports citing sources, the former Chairman NAB Aftab Sultan resigned after being pressured to file cases against political figures.
In July of last year, Sultan took over as head of the National Accountability Bureau, succeeding Justice (r) Javed Iqbal. In the past, he oversaw the Intelligence Bureau, but he left that position in 2018.
Speaking to the media, Sultan said that he had resigned from office a few days ago. “I was asked to do certain things which were not acceptable to me,” Aftab Sultan said.
“I told them that I cannot continue with the conditions. My resignation has been accepted and it comes to an end on a positive note,” he said. “Prime minister expressed good wishes for me, I also have good wishes for him.”
The sources revealed that Sultan had refused to make arrests of politicians on someone’s orders.
“He was pressurized by the government and some other institutions in the last four months to register cases against the people of their choice and arrest them,” they further said.
