A police officer was slain and two terrorists were killed when the office of the Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Karachi was attacked on Friday by unknown assailants.
According to reports, the gunmen besieged the police headquarters with the latest automatic weapons and began firing indiscriminately. They also threw two hand grenades into the building while attempting to break into the office.
At least 8-10 terrorists are claimed to be inside the police station, with the exchange of fire continuing despite the passing of more than half an hour.
The police office is situated at the Shahra-e- Faisal, in which dozens of police staff are engaged in foiling the terrorist attack with full might. All the doors of the office were closed down and the light was also switched off to resistance to the militants. Additional police contingents from other areas have been called to handle the situation.
The Additional IG who is away from the office has confirmed the militant attack on the office and said that the security forces are fighting the terrorists assiduously while a heavy contingent of Rangers has also reached the spot.
Three persons were injured including a Rangers personnel, a policeman, and a rescue official.
According to reports, the terrorists arrived at the police officers in a white Toyota Corolla automobile while dressed in fake police uniforms.
Rangers have been sent in to help the police battle the terrorists, and the roads leading to the police station have been closed to traffic to keep civilians safe.
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah was alerted about the attack on the additional inspector-office generals and directed various DIGs to dispatch a police team to the scene.
“The attack on the Karachi police office is not acceptable under any circumstances,” he said, demanding an initial report from the concerned officer immediately.
The chief minister mentioned that he is personally monitoring the situation and has directed officials concerned to arrest the suspects involved.
