Due to a spike in Covid-19 cases around the country, the meeting of interprovincial education ministers scheduled for Thursday (today) has been postponed.
The 34th meeting of the Provincial Education Minister’s Conference (IPEMC) was to be convened at 11 a.m. under the chairmanship of Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood, with the goal of reviewing the rampant increase in the Omicron variation.
The meeting has been postponed until next week, according to a statement made by the Ministry of Education.
According to data released by the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Thursday, the number of new Covid-19 cases in a single day surpassed 3,000 as the fifth wave of the global pandemic, driven by the Omicron variety, spread quickly across the country.
In its daily update, the NCOC, which serves as the nerve centre of the government’s coordinated effort to prevent the spread of coronavirus, reported that 3,019 people tested positive for the infectious disease in the previous 24 hours, bringing the positivity ratio to 6.12%.
