ISLAMABAD: The federal government asked the Supreme Court on Thursday for an extension of three weeks to submit a report in the Army Public School (APS) attack case.
Prime Minister Imran Khan signed the petition, which asked the Supreme Court for extra time. According to the letter, the premier has already met with the victims’ parents, but will meet with them again to “satisfy” them further.
On November 10, 2021, the Supreme Court summoned Prime Minister Imran and questioned him regarding the federal government’s inactivity against the country’s top security hierarchy after militants attacked the APS in Peshawar on December 16, 2014.
Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed, concerned that individuals in charge of security at the time were now enjoying their lives after getting the guard of honour and other perks and privileges upon retirement, ordered the federal government to take action against those responsible for the APS disaster.
The administration has four weeks to provide a report – signed by the prime minister – in this regard, according to the bench.
On December 9, 2021, the current government asked the Supreme Court for three more weeks to file a progress report in the matter.
It sought the Supreme Court to allow further time so that a thorough report with the signature of the prime minister could be filed. On December 11, the Supreme Court granted the government’s plea to extend the deadline for submitting the report by three weeks.
