The Peshawar High Court (PHC) removed Vice-Chancellor (VC) Gomal University (GU) Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed from his post and suspended the orders of Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Chancellor GU Haji Ghulam Ali, here on another day.
The case of suspension of Governor KP’s orders of the reinstatement of Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed as VC Gomal University was heard by the Divisional Bench of Peshawar High Court headed by Chief Justice Peshawar High Court Justice Qaisar Rashid.
The PHC summoned the Principal Secretary of the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on January 24 and asked for an explanation.
On January 10, the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, after the senate meeting of Gomal University, issued orders to terminate his force leave of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed and reinstate him as the VC of Gomal University.
But as a result of the new decision of the Peshawar High Court, the withdrawal of forced leave of Gomal University Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed and the process of taking charge of the university again has been stalled.
Meanwhile, the court has suspended all the steps taken by Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed till January 24, 2023.
After the court decision, Pro-Vice Chancellor Gomal University Professor Dr. Shakibullah has taken additional charge of Vice Chancellor Gomal University. The Governor KP while implementing the decisions of the syndicate, withdrew the forced leave orders of Prof. Dr. Iftakhar Ahmed and directed him to assume the post and he reached Dera and assumed his duties.
As soon as Professor Dr. Iftاkhar Ahmed assumed charge, Director Administration (Establishment Pool) Dil Nawaz Khan and Director Security Qudrat Ali were suspended and banned from entering the University, while several senior officers, including Director Finance Iram Gul, were removed from their positions.
Director Finance of Gomal University, Miss Iram Gul, had approached the PHC for contempt of court for assuming charge of Professor Iftikhar Ahmed again in the university and his actions, saying that his taking charge is a negation of court orders and obtained an injunction against the minutes of the Syndicate meeting held at the Governor House on January 10, 2023, under the chairmanship of Governor and Chancellor Haji Ghulam Ali in which several other measures were taken including restoring Professor Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed.
The PHC has suspended the orders and actions issued by the Governor and Chancellor Haji Ghulam Ali including the withdrawal of Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed for violating the injunction and summoned his principal secretary and asked for an explanation by January 24.
After the court decision, Pro-Vice Chancellor Gomal University Professor Dr. Shakibullah has taken additional charge of Vice Chancellor Gomal University.
According to the decision of the Peshawar High Court (PHC), Gomal University Additional Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shakibullah suspended the decisions and notifications of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed during the period from January 10, 2023, to January 17, 2023, including the orders of suspension of Director Administration (Establishment Pool) Dil Nawaz Khan, Director Security Qudrat Ali, Director Finance Iram Gul and many other officials.
