Imran Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, claimed on Monday that the establishment was putting pressure on Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi because the deadline for dissolving the assemblies is drawing near.
A day after the Punjab chief minister expressed displeasure over Khan’s criticism of former army chief retired Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa, the former prime minister made this statement while addressing PTI members of the provincial assemblies (MPA) from Sargodha, Khushab, and Jhang.
In an interview, Elahi said he and his party would be the first ones to defend General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa if anything is said against the former army chief from now onwards.
The PTI chief told his MPAs that the chief minister would not create any hurdle in the dissolution of the Punjab Assembly. He said that Elahi had assured him of following his plan to disband the assembly when he is asked for it.
The Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assemblies will be dissolved on December 23 according to Imran Khan’s announcement from last week. He was also harsh with the former army chief for his part in overthrowing the PTI administration.
