TikTok, a Chinese-based video-sharing platform, will soon establish offices in Pakistan after the social media behemoth and the government reached an agreement.
The popular social media platform will establish offices in the federal capital of Islamabad, according to Federal Information Technology Minister Syed Aminul Haque, who also claimed that the company expressed confidence in the government’s policies.
Haque said that in order to better coordinate and regulate social media companies, the government wanted them to open offices there.
Influencers are thrilled about the development because TikTok helps thousands of content creators make good money. Despite enjoying soaring popularity around the world, the platform encountered a number of problems and was banned nearly four times for offensive content.
Due to the distribution of immoral content, TikTok removed millions of videos to avert bans and with a registered company with an office, the social media giant will work in a better way to coordinate with local authorities.
The platform was first launched in 2016 and garnered 100 million active users in the early months. It has also been among the top most downloaded applications with one billion users from 154 nations.
