The Amnesty International LUMS chapter took to Twitter to explain how one of their panelists who was Ahmadi was dropped from the panel at the last moment of the talk which was about tolerance in Pakistan with members of various marginalized minorities.
On 6th December 2022, Amnesty International LUMS Chapter intended to host a talk on tolerance in Pakistan with members of various marginalized minorities. Unfortunately, we were abruptly told to drop the Ahmedi representative we had called to speak last night.

When we asked why we received vague responses about external interference. Still, it is shocking to see an institution such as LUMS fail to protect discourse, even telling us that it is fine because other minorities are still coming.

While we are continuing with the talk, the irony of a particular speaker being dropped on a talk about Tolerance in Pakistan speaks volumes. To make our dissatisfaction known, we will leave an empty seat representing the dropped speaker.

This is shameful. An utter disgrace. A seminar on tolerance?? Irony just died a thousand deaths. Disgusting.

I will request all other guests to excuse themselves from this event if they have a tiny bit of respect for their own views/ ideas they were planning to share with others on toleration.

So they decided to drop from talks the most persecuted community in Pakistan! Ironically, a major reason why minorities etc suffer in Pakistan is because of the laws created in Pakistan specifically to persecute the Ahmadi Muslim Jama’at, trying to negate their Muslim identity

While it’s not news, but still, it proves once again that there is no tolerance in Pakistan towards marginalized communities. I think the point of this program is proven.

This talk should have been cancelled without any second thoughts because the purpose failed before the show.

The topic is “Tolerance in Pakistan” but inviting an Ahmadi speaker will NOT be tolerated !!!

Extremely disappointed in LUMS. They need to learn the definition of tolerance before holding such events. Disgusted to be from Pakistan at this point.

You mean like how Imran Khan appointed Atif Mian (@AtifRMian) into Finance Advisory role in new government, but then had the wrath of all Pakistani Molvi’s and then all their followers on him that with hours he did a complete U turn
