ISLAMABAD: The federal government has decided to take Shehbaz Sharif, the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, to the Lahore High Court in a case involving former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s return.

The federal administration intends to send Shehbaz Sharif to the Lahore High Court, alleging that he promised Nawaz Sharif’s return.

If Nawaz Sharif does not return home, government sources said action will be done against Shehbaz Sharif.

Shehbaz indicated in an affidavit filed with the LHC that Nawaz Sharif would return to Pakistan after his rehabilitation in London was completed.

On October 29, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) in the Al-Azizia reference case deferred former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s sentence for eight weeks for medical reasons.

The court had ordered him to provide two Rs2 million surety bonds in order to secure his release.

During a press conference, Fawad Chaudhry, the Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, stated that Nawaz would never return home voluntarily, but that the government would bring him back once the agreement with the UK government was finalized.

Mian Muhammad Shehbaz is a Pakistani politician and businessman who is currently serving as the 23rd Prime Minister of Pakistan, in office since 11 April 2022. He is the current president of the Pakistan Muslim League.
