Islamophobia: Teacher brands Muslim student a terrorist in India

A video shared by Ashok Swain, professor of peace and conflict research at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research, Uppsala University, Sweden, showed anti-Muslim bigotry in the so-called largest democracy of the world.

“A Professor in a classroom in India calling a Muslim student ‘terrorist’ – This is what it has been to be a minority in India!”, Ashok Swain tweeted as he posted the footage.

In the video, a teacher called a Muslim student a terrorist, drawing the youngster’s wrath. According to the video, the teacher apologised, but it was too late because the anti-Muslim bigotry had already caused harm.

India is regarded as the world’s centre of Islamophobia. This isn’t merely a result of how frequently Islamophobic attacks occur or how heinously evil people can be.

According to Human Rights Watch (HRW), India’s Islamophobia is particularly severe due to institutionalised Islamophobia’s open institutional support in the highest political offices and the lack of any avenue for Indian minorities to seek meaningful protection from the judiciary, police, or other authorities.

Anti-Muslim bigotry is not new in the so-called largest democracy of the world but made Muslims of the subcontinent create a separate state – Pakistan – in 1947. The patrician has a lot of precedents subjecting the Muslims, including children and women, to Indian vendetta, vengeance and violence.

Pakistan has been raising the issue at all the global platforms and Islamabad’s efforts bore fruit earlier in march of the ongoing year. On March 5, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution by consensus declaring March 15 an International Day to Combat Islamophobia.

Pakistan brought the resolution on behalf of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. Delhi has been objecting to the creation of an UN-recognized day to combat Islamophobia.
