Video used in Azam Swati case is probably Indian: FIA

Mohsin Butt, Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), stated on Friday that the video used in the Azam Swati case is most likely Indian.

The FIA director general spoke to the media after attending the Senate Committee on the Azam Swati case in Islamabad.

Mohsin Butt, speaking to the media, stated that they have nothing to hide in this case. He confirmed that the leaked video contains an original Azam Swati clip.

The FIA director general also informed the media that the video will be investigated in other ways at the request of the Senate committee.

Earlier today, the Senate panel on Senator Azam Swati’s leaked video met under the chairmanship of its convener, Maulana Abdul Gafoor Haideri.

The meeting was attended by Interior Ministry Additional Secretary Momin Agha, FIA DG Mohsin Butt, and FIA Director Cybercrime Waqar Uddin.

During the meeting, FIA DG Mohsin Butt informed the attendees that the interior ministry had directed them to conduct an investigation into the incident involving the leaked video of Senator Swati.

Then we directed the cybercrime team to look into the videos that were being shared on social media, he said, adding that the cybercrime team reported that the videos were fake.

The FIA DG also stated that the affected person did not personally request that we conduct an investigation into the leaked videos.

DG FIA told the committee members during the meeting that his agency can only trace IP addresses at the local level and cannot detect footage uploaded from private numbers or from abroad.

He revealed that Azam Swati’s head was attached to someone’s torso in the leaked video. He stated that there is an epidemic of fake videos on social media, and that preventing technology misuse is difficult because no single agency is capable of stopping fake videos.

In response to various senators’ questions, Mohsin Butt revealed that the FIA does not have any technology to monitor WhatsApp.

During the meeting, the director of the FIA Cybercrime Wing also informed the committee members that porn videos from the internet were used to create the (propaganda) videos.
